Royal Society10x10:5 'Epidemics and pandemics - a numbers game?' 18 July, Dunedin

The fifth lecture in the 10x10 series, in which mathematicians talk about how they are helping to solve today's problems, will be on the mathematics of epidemics and pandemics by Professor Mick Roberts FRSNZ. A preview interview with Professor Mick Roberts will feature on Our Changing World on Thursday 11 July at 9pm.

Mathematical models are often used to understand the dynamics of infectious diseases, because once understood it is possible to determine how an infection may be controlled or eliminated.

Mick Roberts is Professor in Mathematical Biology at Massey University, Albany. His research interest is mathematical epidemiology – the modelling and explanation of how infectious diseases are transmitted, why they persist in populations and how they may be controlled.
