The Great Origami Maths and Science Show

Hugh Gribben

Born in New Plymouth and raised in Auckland, maths educator Hugh Gribben first encountered the art of origami as a cub scout. A number of years spent living and teaching in Japan and an ensuing fascination with Japanese culture has lead him down many roads - but he's currently "parked up" at Auckland University tutoring and studying towards a Masters degree in maths.

Pairing up with Jonathan Baxter to produce the Great Origami Maths and Science Show has only encouraged his penchant for 'maths on the fringe' - something he's keen to continue well into the future! The recurring theme in Hugh's life - the blending of art, science and culture - is reflected in his undergraduate degree (majoring in English, Maths and Physics), and his varied interests in origami, manga, PC gaming, languages and martial arts. A potent mix when it comes to taking origami to the national stage!
